Social Networking and Artwork
The new website development is coming along nicely and I thought I would start adding some content to my blog, by giving you an insight in to what I get up to away from web design.
I studied art during the 90′s and still create artwork regularly and try to exhibit online or in galleries as much as I can. I have a sister site www.beamtwenty3.org.uk which I use as an online portfolio for my work. My work explores found objects, including washed up marine plastic and 35mm photographic slides. I also shoot photography that engages with abandoned spaces and the use of ambient and painted light.
I also find the visual language of photography through social networking an amazing tool. I feel photography shouldn’t be measured on the cost of the camera and mobile phone apps such as Instagram, give you the freedom to shoot creatively and share this content with others, well, instantly.
For me, I ask myself “What am I trying to achieve?” when it comes to taking photos. If I spot something interesting and I want to take a quick shot and share that online then my camera phone is the appropriate option. If I have a client that needs web and print quality photographs of a certain product, then my DSLR and strobe flashes would be my tool of choice.
